Nugget “Gertrude” Chicken June 5, 2009 – August 13, 2009. Born in Compton, California. Resident of Mikael Kirkman’s backyard in Albany, California. Friend to us all, except maybe ‘Stimpy’ the cat and the raccoon that most likely mauled and killed her. Our friend, Zakariah Latzka, rescued Nugget from the streets of Compton and brought him to Mikael’s backyard in a cardboard box. She enjoyed chirping and pecking at bugs and stuff.
Nugget died before we could even get a single egg out of her. One night she was in her cage with a blanket over it, and the next morning all that remained was a small pile of soft, white feathers.
An ongoing memorial will be held in Mikael Kirkman’s backyard. In lieu of flowers, we prefer contributions be made in the form of Jim Beam and weed.
